Not sure, but glad you are asking. Might have to search Google by state to find out.

You can get permits for them in all those states, but you have to declare them for 'scientific research'. From what I gather its a fairly involved process to get a permit.

That's insane. So we have to have a permit for a pirahna and Canada can't have turtles. Wonderful world in which we live.

lol, alberta cant have rats and turtles, but the rest of canada can. they can guarantee not 1 rat is in alberta because they dont want a plague, and turtles have salmonella and they think kids will get it. i love that we can have all aquatic animals, i love looking at stingrays and pirahnas

They arent illegal in kansas! :)

I think making people get a permit for them is good. Only the dedicated hobbyists would attempt such, meaning no one would dump the fish in a body of water when they got to big.

Hobbyists shouldn't be able to get research permits for restricted animals. The fact that a permit is available has no bearing on people who want restricted species as pets, they are restricted for a reason.

The best thing is to check with the state department of fish and game, inland fisheries, agriculture, etc. to ensure the true legality. Do not take googled facts as the law, it won't hold in court.

I agree, fishguy, but there are people who will lie, cheat and steal to get them. Permits exist so colleges, aquaculture facilities and universities can keep them.

Exactly, those people shouldn't get them if they are cannot get them honestly. So the fact that there are permits available does not matter. I don't even mention it since they can't get them anyways.
