Hey everyone,
For the last week or two I've been setting up my first aquarium in years and years and years. The last time I had fish, I still thought that 100% water changes were the way to go, and that two goldfish could be kept in a 5 gallon tank. Needless to say, it was not a very successful experience. I am much older and wiser now though, and I'm ready to take another stab at it!
I currently have a 20 gallon tall tank with mostly flourite as the substrate (there's a thin layer of gravel over the top) and a couple plastic log decorations (not ready to deal with driftwood yet). Yesterday I put in several plants: a sword plant, some cryptocorynes, anubias, and java fern. I'm more nervous about the plants than about the fish, honestly. My lighting is terrible (one flora-glo bulb) and I'm not sure when I'll be able to upgrade, but I tried to pick plants that didn't have heavy light requirements, so we'll see what happens.
Anyway, I think I may go out and get my first few fish today. Wish me luck!
