at the moment ive just got my light sitting on top of the glass covers of my tank
anyone know of any creative ways to make a stand or something for it i dont really want to hang it from the roof and im not too keen on big hoods
any help would be appreciated
If your woodworking skills are even average you'd be able to fashion something from wood and paint it to match the tank/stand.

There are some really nice designs to make a canopy, and they are really simple. Just google (www.google.com) "DIY aquarium canopy"

I was thinking maybe something out of acrylic?
possibly glue some leds into it? make a snazzy lighting effect?
or do you think the light would get too hot for it? its only a meter long fluro could it make enough heat to warp it?
Not so sure about acrylic. I'd be worried about heat as you suggest.

i think i know what youre going for. i can buy those acrylic legs for lights, my 3g and 50g long have them. theyre just little tall acrylic legs that hold up the light. some LFS's have them
