betta gill

i rescued my betta from a store cup because he looked spunky. hes always hyper and looking for food. however, he has a oddity. ever since i got him his left gill is always sticking out likes hes flaring, 24/7. is it that he cant close it or something?

Could be a deformity. Happens when Bettas have been crossed and recrossed as they have for 90 or so years. Subtle errors creep in like that.

hmmm, thats weird. hes really good looking and hardy (when i came back from europe he was living is a algae infested dirty tank, and he never got sick and was healthy, and half the plants were rotting). so it seems like ive got a invincible mutant betta! lol. thanks for the reply dave
