Nope, I have a whisper 3i filter in my betta's 2.5 tank....nothings happened with it so far.....*Knock On Wood*
So Pearl, I think what you are hearing is that your betta was weak/sick before and it was not able to handle the current. What size filter are we talking about?

it also happens with old age, they cant fight the current then

only time i have had a fish get sucked into the intake is when its getting ready to die or is already dead. they are weak and can't fight the suction/current.

i dont know what kind of filter but i know its a whisper and the carbon bag size is medium. i had only had the betta for a couple weeks and it had shown no signs of disease or anything

I got a feeling he was already dead and the filter just pulled him in.

As the long-finned Bettas we enjoy are poor swimmers, a sponge filter would be a better idea for their tank.
