Hi all, my husband & I have just purchased a 5ft aquarium and are in the process of setting it up. We will be transferring our fish from our 550litre tank to the new one hopefully soon. We have struck a problem with the filter. We purchased a Resun AE808 and it didn't come with very clear instructions. Does anyone know the best way to set it up? We currently have it set up with ceramic bio balls and 2 sponges, it came with activated charcoal but we can't see where this goes. We have only had fish for 12 months and have never had a large tank before. We would appreciate any advice on what we should be aware of before transferring our fish to the new tank. When setting the tank up we purchased 60 kgs of gravel and have washed this the best we can and the water is now becoming cloudy rather than mudddy looking. Should be clear in the next few days. We also have a power filter which is filled with dacron. This seems to be trapping a lot of the dirt quite nicely.

We would appreciate any advice from more experienced fish keepers.:4:

Welcome to AC:22:

There is a good free ebook in the ebook section, I recommend you have a read of it, it may save a few probs with the new setup.

Calling the customer service number that come with your filter for questions regarding setting your filter up if you have problems but the charcoal goes into the filter in a filter bag. I don't have a canister and not sure but the bioballs go in the bottom and then the charcoal and then the floss and filter pads if I'm not mistaken. There should be a list to the order in which to load the canister.

Good luck and welcome to AC. Enjoy your new tank and make sure you don't overload with fish until you have a good cycle.

Welcome to AC:19:

A lot of folks don't use carbon/charcoal at all except to remove meds from the water
