I was wondering if anyone thought i would have enough space and filtration to add one of these guys..I was going to add a female krib, but my male and female have paired off and bred. I think I also have a good tank for it (11) plants, ( 7 inch) piece of driftwood, pretty big cave made of fist size rocks and many other hiding spots and things like that..

My filtration:

1 Fluval 105
1 Aquatech 30-60
30% water changes once-sometimes twice a week.

I haven't lost a fish due to bad water parameters in like 5 months so im pretty stable.

Sounds good... I saw a bunch of them(same tank) at a PetLand for 15 bucks each...Thought they were cheaper!

Do you want to put a GBR with spawning Kribs, not a good idea. The Kribs will kill or stress the Ram to death.

I already have a convict in with them. He didn't stop eating , just didn't go to the other side of the tank..

A Convict can hold his old, Rams are easily stressed and rather peacefull. Spawning Kribs will be monsters. I've heard of them blinding large Clown Loaches to protect the spawn. Just giving you a heads up, I don't think it would be a good mix.

I wouldn't put the ram with the convict either. Convicts are a lot more aggressive. Rams are pretty much non-aggressive fish, so they do better in a community tank.

Convicts arent aggressive unless their breeding..not mine anyways..

Well from what i heard and read that the Rams should be fine with the kribs. But the convict could...COULD be a problem but with all of that hiding space i doubt that it iwll be. They are quite small and could be thought of as food. But if you keep all of your other fish fed well then it shouldn't be a problem.

P.S.
Around where i live you can get a German Blue Ram for abotu $2-$5

Well the convict at the momemt is the same size as my kribs except rounder, so the ram would be same size.

Yeah well the German Blue Ram only grows to be about 5cm and is a community tank fish. So just take that into consideration before you buy it. I know that i would take the chance and get it. But if your fish are picking on it just take it back.

kribs are good for community tanks too..but yes i am probably going to take the chance.

Yeah i knew that kribs were too. But the thing is that i heard that convicts were supposed to be a species only tank. But with the one in there it should be fine. So good luck with the rams.

P.S.>
How many rams are you planing on getting???

Kribs are good in a community tank as long as they are not spawning.

ive heard what the p has heard, convicts are fine unless breeding. only when my white ones were breeding did they pick fights with my small oscar, other than that they got along.

I had 2 SAE's amd ,y convict with my kribs while they were breeding. The SAE's got chased from the kribs half of the tank, other than that they were fine. My convict had the other half of the tank. He made this huge 3 inch high hill with sand in the right corner and had himself a nice and high fortress to himself.

I've also heard that unless breeding, cons are very peaceful. Mine is, he's only gotten in one confrontation ( with alot of flaring but no fighting) with the FM but thats it.

If yyou mean Firemouths, arent they an aggressive cichlid?

Dave66
09-09-2007, 10:20 PM
When breeding, yes, P. But they are no where near what Convicts are when they breed. Otherwise, I've never had firemouths bother anyone that wasn't small enough to eat, but I've kept them in large planted tanks, so in a smaller container, it may differ.

Well i would at least get 2 rams becasue of what i heard that like to be with others of their own kind. So i would spend the $30 and get 2. IT would be better for each other and it would look nicer.
