Those tanks are set up for shows and why you see no filters, cords, heaters. They are simply set up for judging purposes.

Still, some can be very humbling. Though seen tons of examples of some plants I have showcased.

Has anyone ever been to one of these exhibition shows/competitions? I'd love to go for a look around one but I don't know how to find out when and where they are held. Any ideas?

True. However, you can get inspiration from them. And with the current mirror finish heaters and an external with some good glassware you can accomplish something equally good looking.
