Well today I went home from college and I realized 2 of my H.Rasboras were daed and one on it's way out. I quickly took them out, threw them out and test my water. Ammonia 0 and trites 0. I realized that the fish were really gasping for air. Recently I took off my HOB so I have nothing breaking the water surface giving oxygen to the water. I just redid my DIY Co2 yesturday so I think they were just over loaded with Co2 and because there was no oxygen in the water was why they were gasping. So, I immediately disconnected my Co2 and put the HOB back on and got some oxygen in the water.
I then left to go back to college as my friend was driving and I had to leave.
So what do you all think, the lack of oxygen was the problem and they will be ok now?
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

as long as they have a oxygen source they should be fine.

Zack, sounds right to me. You have to have some kind of oxygen going into the tank. I'm afraid to use the DIY CO2 after having two bad episcodes with it. I may get the Florish Excel to use instead.

Well my mom called this morning and said they are all set now.
Hobbs about the flourish excell. Keep in mind you will be providing the plants with some nutrients but yet you won't provide them with the real food they need. (the Co2). You should still see growth maybe just not as fast.
The only reason this happened to my fish is because I took the HOB off and had no oxygen going into the water.

Flourish excel contains bio-available CO2
...sounds like an O2 problem to me too...
...I have to keep the water levels down on my 10g and on the 25l...otherwise the flow from the HOB doesn't disturb the surface enough and my fish are O2 starved as well...
Scared me the first time I sae that!

What is your DIY CO2 test??
IDK, my drop checker should be here any day. It shouldn't be able to get that high with DIY because DIY can't really produce "too much" Co2. It's not really capable of it.

I didn't ask for the CO2 producing capabilities of the DIY system, Zack, I asked what do you use for your DIY test system. :19:

O, I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I use a 1 gallon gatorade jug with 4 cups of sugar and 3/4 tsp yeast....
