cloudy water

hi i seen on a website that if u turn ur filter off for an hour its supposed to get rid of cloudy water is this true ? also would it kill the fish ?

Turning of the filter can allow for particles to settle on the bottom of the tank hence providing cleaer water however if that is the problem the water will most likely clear in a few days anyway. Turning of the filter can allow toxins to start the developing in it which than are released into the water when it is restarted. One hour would likely not cause the effect just described which is an effect of low oxygen levels in the filter but thought I should tell you none the less.

Which fish do you keep? Might affect my answer!
