I am thinking of putting some rainbow fish in my new tank when I get it set up. I was thinking either celebes, threadfin, or preacox....or a combination of the 3. Would any of these rainbow fish do good in a tank that has a school of 6 serpae tetras? I know the serpaes can be nippy, but if they are in a school would they leave the rainbows alone?

I wouldn't do it, the serpae are nippy and the rainbows tend to be a shy and peaceful type of fish.

Good point. It is hard to tell how they would interact. Better off not trying it if there is any doubt.

im thinking maybe cardinal tetras.....they look a lot like neons but are a little bigger....never have luck with neons anyway, lol.
