We're definitely putting a clownfish in, from there we're still looking at compatibilities. We really like the star fish, lion fish and puffers but don't think they'd be compatible.....suggestions are alwasy welcome!

Yeah well i am not SURE but i am pretty certain that almost all (if not all) lion fish are venomous.
That is why i would not go near one with my hand or any part of my body.
lol

that tank is nowhere near large enough to house a lionfish. very nice tank btw!

What size tank would you need for a Lion Fish? This one is a 60 Gallon.

i phrased my last post wrong. don't get me wrong, they can survive in a 60 (certain species of lionfish) but they really need a lot more space to establish territory and need room to swim)

yep, and they can be finicky eaters. i took care of the one at a small LFS once

Well isn't there a like miniature size...or dwarf lionfish species????
I thought that i read it once somewhere.

ok well here is what i think one is so just look at it and i have done a paper on this website and i found it very useful. So here is the link. Also it has so many saltwater fish that you can look at. www.saltwaterfish.com is the website but the link is of what i think the dwarf lion fish is. I saw another one somewhere but i can't remember.http://www.saltwaterfish.com/site_11_03/product_info.php?products_id=428&parent_category=4&category_search=61&root_parent_id=4

2 inches is good. but i do advise you to be careful with it. it needs 3 hours of acclimating and the sting is deadly.

Yeah i know. Thats why i would NEVER want to touch one. It would be cool to have in a tank but i don't think that i would want to get one though.
They def. are something AMAZING to look at.

Grrr!!! I wanna start a SW tank so bad. Hopefully sooner than later, I am thinking around the holidays.
Is that a coral that you have in there right near the center kind of behind the rock?

O, I thought it looked like one of those finger coral things which are an SPS or a LPS? I think LPS?
I may be completely wrong on every level lol, I just like to try to apply some of what I have been reading about and see if it is correct....am I?

lol, it doesnt have to be. you can get a pair of pereculas in a simple 10g. or you do have that spare 29g. ideas ideas. lol

It doesnt matter how simple something is, everything I do or think about ends up turning into something complicated! I make nothing easy on myself! haha

Thanks for all the comments! I think after all the comments about the lion fish, we've decided against that. They are definitely cool.

The "coral" is just decor, not real. We found it on the clearance rack at the LFS and decided it would be a nice addition until we can get some 'real' stuff in there.

In looking at the tank last night we have another snail (so we had 2 hitchhikers in our live rock). We've also noticed some worm looking things that have a fan looking thing at one end and on some of the live rock there are some translucent discs....can anyone identify? They're so small I don't think I could get a good picture.

sounds like aiptasia, a saltwater stinging pest

Milnita
08-31-2007, 01:48 PM
Which one the worms or the discs? Should we do anything about them?

cocoa_pleco

the disks. you can get a peppermint shrimp, those may eat a few, but otherwise you can manually get rid of them or leave them

Cool - thanks for the info. We just noticed them last night...it was like they appeared out of nowhere!

...nice start...but before you buy any critters you need way more live rock...unless you're doing a fish-only tank...

For 60 g you need 60-90 lbs of live rock...if you go with 60 lbs it needs to be premium live rock...if you go with 90, you could use quite a bit of base rock, to help reduce your costs...

If you keep adding more LR to your tank as is, you're going to have to do some major curing and be very careful about mini-cycles happening in your tank...a mini-cycle can cause havoc with some critters...

One thing about a SW tank...it is less forgiving than FW...

We are doing fish only. But we do plan to add more live rock. We were told by the LFS that we could add the "cured" rock after adding fish.

Thanks for the info though. Believe it or not, what we've got in there is over 30 pounds.

All of our levels hit "0", we went out and got fish on Saturday, one clown, a sixline wrasse and a hi fin cardinal along with 10 small hermit crabs....

Great! Keep tabs on your water parametres...new livestock can always change things a bit on you!

Souunds exactly like me, no matter what I do it somehow gets screwed up. I see everyone else do the things I try to do with no problems and someone I mess it up. Then it ends in me getting very frustrated swearing and yadayada.
