Its probably a full grown asterina star.

Ohhh I bet it's a lil cutie...I love starfish...I seen this red & white one at the Aquarium and it had a yellowish center very cool looking. That's cool that you got it with your LR.

one question on the starfish (i havent really had starfish, only one in my 10g (purple one) from 3 years ago). he looked like he had 3 long legs and 3 stubby ones. is he in the process of re-glowing the legs? and is there anything special i should feed him, or does he just scavenge?

I'd have to see it, but if its the little guys that show up in reef tanks, its a detriatus eater. Got thousands of them in my refugia. The clam is a filter feeder, and there's not enough in the average tank to keep them alive. You can try gently squirting a particulate food for filter feeder at it with a turkey baster once a day every day if you want to keep it alive.

A question--how common is this to get "bonuses" with live rock?

EXTREMELY! ive even seen people get those mini octupus's that live 2 months in their LR. Fiji is the very best too

You'll pretty much always get something. The question is, how much good stuff and how much bad.

I use aquacultured rock and sand from Florida, and its amazing the life that was in/on the rock. Lost a thumbnail to a muddy pink mantis shrimp, one of two that were in the first shipment. Corals, clams, tunicates, sponges, a chiton, a gorilla crab I gave away and dozens of other creatures came in with the rock.
