Hi all,
I'm still fairly new to fish keeping, but I've been checking craigslist for random additions to my tank and I came across this ad:
http://kansascity.craigslist.org/for/2897043682.html
Has anyone bought off craigslist-how would i go about to make sure the fish is healthy/disease free/all that kind of stuff?

Has anyone owned this L333 before? are they good for community tanks?
I have a 40gal breeder-fish I have are in my sig.

Thanks for the help in advance

I would not keep him in a 40 gallon but he's a nice pleco.

Aw bummer, his colors are just incredible!
How big do these get to prevent me from housing it in my 40gal?

From what I've read it sound like one could work http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Hypancistrus&species=sp.&id=1046 ,although LH probably knows much more on this fish than me.

Man oh man, that is conflicting.
I really want a pleco, but every store in the area only has common pleco's and I just can't have a 10in fish in this size of a tank. :(

Are you sure, in a city as big as K.C. there ought to be at least one bristle nose.

Well I found albino BN Pleco-but for some reason albino fish just aren't my thing.
Other than that, the nicest LFS around has Common-I could ask them to order a BN in-or any other one that would be cool.
The local PetCo/PetsMart-only have Common pleco's
KC surprisingly has little to do with aquatics.
Either its a PetCo/PetsMart or a couple small companies that just service tanks for companies. It is kinda sad actually.

Well some options:
Get an albino or 2! They're greeaaat in my opinion. They stand out and they are natural (not dyed) they just are rather rare in nature.
Get the l333 it would probably work in that tank.
Have the lfs order regular ones.
check other LFSs a little outside the city.
Order online.
get a huge tank and a common pleco:hmm3grin2orange:.

That's a good point MLB,
I'm just into a very colorful tank-my substrate is white-so that's why i'm hesitant on getting albino fish.
I'll keep looking and see what I can come up with.

I would love to keep growing tank sizes-just don't have the room right now :(
One day i'll own a 200+gal tank.

At 1" or a little bigger it will take them a couple years to mature, and then a couple more to reach full size. Still under 6", not a problem in a 40 breeder, I have 6 in a 30 long I've been growing out for 2 years now. They are nocturnal, and given suitable cover you'll seldom see them.

Petcos and Petsmarts are starting to carry Rubbernose Plecos... and those guys are suitable for the tank size you have. :ssmile:

Good news!
After talking to the nice LFS in the area-the FW employee said he'll order in some BN and other smaller Pleco's-since he is seeing that more people want a pleco but can't have the giant common in their tanks.
So now I just wait and i'll go check them out when they come in the near future!

L-333s don't grow all that fast or large. It's capable of getting larger than it probably will. It can be in a community tank, if the community is not an aggressive one. If male, the L-333 will want a cave to hide in. If you want to see him you'll make a tunnel - not a cave.

check out www.plecoplanet.com, www.plecoworld.org and www.planetcatfish.com for information from squiggle fish breeders.

It looks as if the craigslist ad was deleted.

L-333s are much in demand.
If you want them and see an ad, strike!

Thanks for the tips
Next time I come across one of these, I'll be sure to strike right away.
They have wicked cool design on them.
