Do medusa plecos have no bristles when they are young? (Ancistrus rununculus)
I recently bought one as a L34 but it has no bristles and does not have the characteristic broad head. It is also dark brown and gold (vertical) striped with "horns" coming from the nostrils. I know useless without pics but I need to borrow a camera. Any ideas

Sounds like a young specimen. And only the males develop the large head and bristles.

That does not look like a medusa pleco to me, I am not sure what kind of pleco that is.

Looks like an Ancistrus claro to me, since I have eight of them in my 75 planted. Picture is so dark, though, hard to be sure.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did find an ID. He is a Pterygoplichthys scrophus. He has 13 dorsal rays which puts him in the pterygos...also means he will get twice the size i was anticipating at 10-14inches...so..now to decide if I can still provide him a home as he will definately outgrow my 27gal.

even if he gets 10 inches hes way to big for a 27G
