I have a 45g. Today I put in 1-1" and 2-2" Clown Loaches. You can have 3 Clown Loaches in you tank till they grown to 6" then they must go. They grow slow. What else is in the tank?

They grow to 1' at best more like 7"-8".

Whats the point of getting a fish if your already planning on bringing it back? Its just causing needless stress..I wouldnt buy clwon loaches for your 46g.

I could find many reliable websites that say 50g is enough.

Well i guess its not too reliable if it says clown loaches can go into 55g then is it? Ofcourse it can fit in it, but it needs to be a in a tank big enough for it to move around and thrive. They can reach 16 inches and do best in groups of 3 or more.

There is much speculation on loach sizes. In the wild they can get huge.....a foot easily. But I have read often enough that in captivity they generally run around 6 inches. I've had mine now for 2 years and they are finally at 4 inches. They live 20 years plus and are very slow growers.

I love my loaches. I had 7 in a 55 gallon but one got caught in a decoration and died and just last week one come up missing. I just don't know what size they will get but if they get huge, it will probably take more years than I've even be around so guess I won't worry about it much.

With enough space, occasional live food and sympthetic surroundings, takes about five years to reach a foot. To my experiences, the females reach a foot, the males about 10 inches.
I had six in an eight foot planted. I had a horrible time finding someone to take them when I moved.

i have 3 little ones in my 3 ft tank. i know eventually they will need a bigger tank but as they are such slow growers, by the time ill need to shift them i should have my own house and the room to get a 6 ft tank for them. my loungeroom will have that 6 ft and another 6 ft for my oscars.... and somewhere a lounge and a tv????

YIKES. Mine had better step it up if they need to grow 10 inches in another 3 years then. Looks they may end up in their very own tank yet.

LOL, I've had mine for about 6 months, and like hobbs they are very slow growing, I have 2 in my 30G along with 2 yoyos, I have been waiting untill they reach about the 5 - 6" range to put them in the 120G, as I am afraid whilst they are taking one of there regular naps, if I put them in to small, the oscar will snack on them.

I see now that I posted the same link as Kuli did. Sorry Kuli.

Can't say as I'd want a loach 16 inches but having a few 10 inch would be awesome. I certainly will keep mine as long as I can and when I no longer have them, they will go to my son. If I have to get rid of my furniture to get them a 100 gallon I will. I'd rather have the loaches than my couch, anyway.

LOL

It will for some time, sarah. Adult clown loaches are heavy-bodied, huge fish. Gentle giants, though. They won't eat fish too large for their mouths.
