I have a Pleco with other fishes in a 20 galon tank. I have seen the pleco on the plants, like he do on the sides of the tank. Is he eating the plant?

They can eat some soft plants types but most plecos leave the plants alone as long as they aren't starving.

I got anacharis and Java Moss. I saw him like "eating" at it. I will give him more food just in case. Thanks.

like "eating" at it was likely just him cleaning the plants from algae growing on the plant.

It could be...

How can I know the difference?

you'll know if the plant starts to disapear but me thinks the pleco would start from the edge of the leaves to eat it

I wouldn't worry about it. 99% that ge is just cleaning your plants. And as Full3R says, as long as you don't start seing through your leaves and find holes in them you have nothing to worry about and even than there are several more likely reasons.

Plecos don't have any extruding teeth, they suck with their "gums", so that means they don't have the necessary tools to nip or tear into the plants. Ever see an old toothless man tear into beef jerky before? Without the help of his dentures that is.

Some sp. will 'graze' on plants. What sp. of pleco do you have ? If it is a common pleco L021/L023 it will outgrow a 20g tank rather quickly. Feed raw cucumber or zuccini. This will satisfy his vegetary requiremants. Yes, he was prob grazing algae from your plant leaves.

I don't know what type of pleco it is.

When you said will "outgrow", are you telling me that he will be so big for that tank? How much does it really grow?

Assuming yours is a common pleco, he could easily grow to over a foot if given the room.

Most do but it is not suitable for him. Ham is to fat to be healthy for fish.

if your plants are broad leaved, you better believe hes eating them. if you keep them well fed they will usually leave the plants alone, not always though

what size is he?
