Thanks to all of you for yr kind welcome.
With my eldest abandoning his tropical tank for affairs of the heart (!) i aquired it and began converting it to a marine one. My first job was to reinforce the joints with special anti-fungal silicone sealant...dont trust old tanks lol.
After a few days, a thorough cleaning with mild salt solution.
The one piece of advice i always seem to hear is : patience !
The main problem was that i needed special lighting and was fortunate that my local aquatics shop had a secondhand one which i was able to attach to the top of the tank
I had further luck when i remembered that i had an external filter which came with a previous tank....this was found in the back of my shed...3 years just sitting there doing nothing ! After replacing the vulcanised "O" ring, the Ehiem filter is working a treat !
With the additional purchase of 2 powerheads and an external skimmer, i was almost ready to go to phase 2 !
After a couple of days i added coral sand to the bottom and purchased 100 litres of salted RO water from my local aquatics shop, where i also purchased some live rock.
Now the wait begins !.....anyone still awake will have to see my next installment :fish:
