Reinforcing a desk

How should I reinforce a desk so I can place a 20 gallon long on it?

I do a lot of furniture building as well as welding ED, can you explain more, what the table is made from, type of wood, a standard PC table?

i reinforced mine so if something happened it wont collapse and will lean gently on the wall

Ok, The desk is wooden. I don't know if the corners are reinforced with metal brackets or not, but I don't see any so I'll assume no brackets. I really have no clue about about carpentry. My dad and grandpa were carpentry geniuses. Why couldn't I have inherited some of it? lol

Looking at the pics Ed, it seems to be built of a solid hardwood, and at 20G I think that would be around the 100kg mark?, if so, and the table is solid, (no wobbles) I think it would support your tank, there is more than enough support on the drawer side, if concerned at all, put a couple of 2x4s under the other end.

Do you mean put the 2x4s on the left side with the space for the chair?

Yes ed, if unsure of the support on that end.

But if it is wobbly at all, I would totally reconcider, you would need to brace the whole thing in that case, with triangular supports screwed in to all the corners, (if this is the case, pm me with your email, and I will send you a plan of what I mean, it is hard to explain without a diagram)

lol, that things literally 5X stabler than my desk and mine holds my 20g long with ease. youre fine

Well, I have gotten different opinions on this, and if anything were to break, swimming pool on the new carpet lol.

Ok, I have weights in the garage and If a put like a pad of carpet and 250 pound of weight on it, will that be like just having the tank on it? because if it is going to break I want it to break without a tank on it.

if its a long weight it should be fair, if its not as long as the tank theres too much pressure in one area unlike the real aquarium. are there legs on the desk or is it just flat bottomed?

The weights are round; the ones you put on dumbells and such.

it wouldnt be like a tank since its direct weight, not spread like a aquarium, but if it makes it then its for sure safe. go for it!
