Elizabeth, rainbows are fresh water, and in my limited experience, amazingly easy to keep once they're established. Nice little critters. I wish there were more varieties available, though.

I have boesemani and turquoise. Both nice fish. The ones I had that I didn't like were the Austrialian Spendia, very commonly sold here. They were nuts.
Easy to breed them but the young grow soooooo slow that it gets annoying waiting for them to grow up. They tie up a grow out tank forever.
