I'm new on here. Can anyone telll me what this clam like looking creature to the left of the tiny clam is? It's like a lobster claw or wishbone shaped, We just discovered after we moved one of our zoo corals. This things closes the second it sees us...it will also detach itself from teh live rock at night........anyone know if what this is and if we should keep it? Thanks!

The thing you're talking about detaches itself and goes wandering around in the tank at night? Then it goes back to the same exact spot on the rocks?? Are you sure it isn't retreating into the rocks at night?

:11: Thanks for your help! No this unknown clam looking creature never leaves. The only thing it does is open up and closed quickly when detects motion. The mouth opens about a 1/4 inch when fully open. Any ideas?

They are filter feeders... I have one the size of my fist as well as one the size of a nickel on one of peices of live rock. They are definately mollusks of some sort, but I have not been able to identify them either.

I've seen them everywhere on the reefs. I would just make sure you add phytoplankton to the tank just to make sure it doesn't starve to death
