So I've had a firemouth for around a month now, haven't sexed it yet. I bought it when it was around an inch or so big and it is growing great, it is now almost two inches!!! I'm so glad I got it. Before getting it I read up and nearly all books and websites say they are peacefull and like hanging around a cave. My tank has quite a few caves and shady areas, but he/she seems perfectly happy cruising around the middle to top of the tank! It takes flake straight from the top! I'm not complaining, but is this regular behaviour. It seems to enjoy swimming around with my 9 red eye tetras hahaha its like an outsized tetra hahahaha

Sounds like he's perfectly comfortable in your tank!

sounds normal. They like to have caves but will not stay around them all the time and will move in all layers of the water but is mostly in the lower half.

Thanks for the replies! I would say he/she is definately comfortable in the tank! I was just wondering if anyone elses fish behaved like that. I love that fish!!
