Hello!

I would like to keep a fish in a 4 gallon bowl (with an air pump and changing the water often).

I love goldfish, but would never subject one to a 4 gallon aquarium.

Does anyone have any suggestions for "cute", chubby fish (btw, I don't like Betas).

Thank you!

Maybe one platy, or one balloon molly (not sure exactly how big they get). Not really much you can keep in a 4 gal bowl. Glad you aren't going to put a goldfish in it, it wouldn't last long in there and would quickly outgrow it.

How about a small plant and 3 neons?

THANK YOU for not putting a goldfish in a bowl!

you could have a couple neons or maybe glowlight tetras. not having a filter limites the fish choices. if there was any way to get a filter you could get a dwarf gourami. Your setup right now could support an african dwarf frog too.

How about making a little DIY filter out of an air pump/stone and a film container...

I'm just amazed that no one has created a self-contained, water-proof, battery operated filter. I emailed a few manufacturers with the suggestion.

I know many, many people that would love to keep fishbowls or vases, but, like myself, hate the unsightly tubing and wires.

any suggestions?

Does anyone know how often you have to change the filter media in the miniature pump?

completely change it...probably never, or very rarely. just swish it around in the water you took out when you do a water change...prob same as any filter.

Really? So I can put one of my dwarf gouramis in a 5 gallon tank?
