Does anyone know of a very inexpensive tank cover? By that I practically mean free.

Thanks.

The glass cover we ordered for our 100gal was only $65...which I thought wasn't too bad. I'm not sure how much smaller sizes are

Glass covers are pretty cheap as others have stated. Many places don't carry them, tho. Big Al's not at all. ThePetPlace had a lot of them but "out of stock" on nearly all of them so I am thinking they might be stopping handling them. DrsFoster and Smith still has them.

Yes Ed, you can, but it has to be turned where it concentrates the light (sharp edge up, if I remember right).

I like screens as well. I prefer an open tank if I don't have a jumping fish with a hanging light fixture.

i like open tanks too. generally if i didnt buy the tank as a starter kit and just itself bare i dont bother with a hood

If you really think about it, starter kits are such a waste of money, personally, I just about toss everything out but the tank itself, or at least keep it as spares. There is a store down in Kelowna that has the All Glass 55g kit on sale for $200 (usual $250). Pretty good price, but the lighting is too basic for anything other than a community tank with few plants. The filter is the Whisper 60, which is good as a spare or a secondary filter. The heater, non-submersible and basic. So, I'd rather buy the tank by itself for about $125 and go from there. But that's just me.

I'd get the kit and another whisper 60, another heater, and a new bulb and you would be set.

i kinda the to stay away from starter kits too. the only ones of mine are the 55g and 5g. the rest were either single and i bought better equipment than starter kits or i bought them used (like my 33g reef, 40$ at a auction, or the hex 50$ at a garage sale)

I live in Alaska and paid 45 bucks for a 10 gal cover (it was the econo lid).
For 17 bucks I got a sheet (24x30) of plexi-glass.It made lid for a 10 and 15 gal
tanks.
65 for 100 gal is way cheap in my book.
