I am setting up a new tank soon and have looked up Blue acaras, I am pretty sure that I am going to get one!! My tank is 46 gal and footprint is 95cmx35cm.

Would this set up be ok for a tank of that size, 1 Blue Acara, 1 Port Brown Acara, and a school of Tigers/Green Barbs.

Will be planted and have plenty of hidey holes.

Also Is it adviseable to keep just a singular blue and port? or 1 blue and three port or vice versa etc....

Thanks!!!!!

That should be enough for the two acaras as they can max out at 5 to 6"

If you get two the same and they spawn, you won't be able to keep any other fish in there when they have eggs or fry. They are very very protective of their young.

I'm not to sure about the barbs so I will leave that for others to comment on

Cheers Cliff!!

I just wasn't sure whether I should get like two browns since they are smaller and incase the blue is a bully then the aggression would be spread.

Hope someone can advise on the barbs!!

A school of barbs should be fine with them. There will be dominance fights among the acara whether or not you keep a mixture of blues and browns
