So I'm cleaning out my GBR cichlid tank this morning after I woke this morning and saw my GBR had abandoned the group of ~20 fry (4th day free-swimming) and only about 3 were to be seen loose about the tank by themselves.

Whilst trying to track these down I noticed some kind of water insect or parasite in the water. Very small, nearly see-though. They most crawl on the glass, but will swim in really jerkly like movements between locations. Totally creeps me out. Nothing live other than fish (and algae lol) should be in there!

What are these?! Any ideas?

there are a lot of little tiny critters. Most of them are harmless, but a few aren't. Can you give a general description of the body shape?

Jerking behavior = cyclops. They can eat tiny fry, but little else, fish-wise. Mature fish will eat them if they see them.

Yep, checked out pictures on the web and they definitely looks like cyclopses.

It's possible they could have been injuring the fry then. Damn!

Thanks!
