I am currently cycling my 55gal tank for African Cichlids. I used life sand from LFS and followed all recommended steps that I know of. I have a 110 AquaClear Power Filter and a 200w heater. I think the Algae is of the Blue-Green variety. I am not sure if I am correct and how the best way to resolve the issue.
I tested my water last night:
PH 8.2
Am 0 ppm
Nitrite 0 ppm
Nitrate 5 ppm approx.
I also used a test strip:
Hardness 120 ppm
Total Alk / Buffer 150 ppm
I did a 10 gal water change tonight to lower my Nitrates.
Please let me know what I can do to move forward. I have 8 pieces of Fell Malaysian Driftwood soaking in the bathtub waiting to go in. Can I go ahead and put it in?
