I was recently at a river near us, and I caught an odd little tadpole. It's about 1 1/4" long, with 3/8" of that being body. The odd thing is, the body is tan, and there is a row of spots down its back, increasing then decreasing in size like this:

The largest spot is about 1/8". Any ideas what he is? He's in my tank so I can see what he turns into. I saw only three others like him (they got away), and I was thinking maybe a treefrog? We're in Texas BTW.

Some tadpoles overwinter. It might be a bullfrog tadpole. I would suggest researching about frog/toad species found in your area.

I don't think it's a bullfrog. They get larger than this one before overwintering usually. Do you know if any frog freaks get on here? Edit: he may be a green treefrog. Does anyone know if the tadpoles overwinter?

Wups, maybe he is a bullfrog. He's almost 3" long now! He seems to like frozen food very much.

Wow, 5" long! Yup, bullfrog.
