Last Sunday my Aircondition broke and by the time I thought about looking at the Temps in the tanks all the the tanks had gone up 4-6 degrees.
Does fish getting ICK or dieing have anything to do with tank temps going up?
In my 10g. Today 2 Hatchets have died and I see another with ICK.
In the 29. I can't find a Bronze Cory so I assume It is dead. Looked for 10 minutes.
38g. My Pictus had ICK and I put Copper Meds a few days ago and it cleared up. I had a Catfish Shark that had bad ICK and since I really did not want it I flushed it down the toliet alive.
Before This I have not lost a fish in 3 months. I am really made.

Shame on you, there are other ways to take care of unwanted fish.
Dead fish will not elevate your tank temp.
If you have Ick in so many tanks you must be using nets and other things in all your tanks. Sharing will spread disease.

Dead fish will not elevate your tank temp.
What I was saying was, does having the tank TEMP go up by 4-6 degrees cuase sick or dead fish?
Again before this I have not losted a fish in 3 months.

No. A dead fish will not elevate temps in the tank. Your temps went up because your air conditioner went out, apparently.
Freshwater, flushing a sick fish down the toilet is FAR BEYOND ACCEPTABLE!
I am issuing you a public warning for posting about this type of unethical behavior. This will not be tolerated from any member. Disgusting.
Beyond that, your tanks are in a horrible state and are not healthy. Please keep up with your tanks or do not keep fish at all. Cruelty to animals is not acceptable.

I had no air conditioning last summer and had a terrible time keeping temps in the tank stable. I was freezing bottles of ice and letting them float in my tanks to keep temps down. This year I bought an air conditioner so it's no longer a problem.
Temps are raised to treat ICK and people safetly raise their temps from 76-78 to 82-84 and add salt to treat it so I don't think the temps raising would kill them. Depends of course on how hi the temps got and how long they remainded that high. Keep fans going on the tanks and keep the lights off until you get the air conditioner fixed.

You will probably have to treat that whole tank that has those with ick. Some bottom dwellers can't tolerate the salt so be careful with those.

In the 2 tanks with ICK I put Copper Meds. In the 29 I just can't mind the 3rd Cory. Looked all over 10 minutes. I think I got rid of the ICK in the 38, but I know for sure I still have it in the 10g.

Funny how it goes sometimes. I don't lose a fish for ages and maybe will loose two or three at once and in different tanks. Today my large angel killed a danio in one tank (good boy!) and in another tank one of my neons is missing. And no body found.
Last week I bought 4 silver dollars. One day later 1 died but I saw it had ick. I got him out of the tank right away and no others got it and I didn't need to treat the tank. Actually I'm surprised as they were all in the bag together when I purchased them.
Sometimes you just seen to run the gambit like that and now I will probably not loose another fish for months.
Hope you get the ick cleared up soon and your fish will be happy and healthy again. It gets bad enough to get in their gills and it's over for them so it's good you started treating right away.

Yes it is strange, I some how lost a young mollie in my tank. My bichir of course had nothing to do with it.:c4: Flushing live fish is terrible. You can take care of them different ways as GM said. I haven't had ick since I started so I can't help you much but aquarium salt works wonders. If you have corys, go half dose or a little less to lower the stress onto them or don't use it at all.

Make sure that you follow the full course of medication especially if you stop seeing spots on the fish - most medications kill the parasite when it is free swimming.

That is the only way I know meds to work. Good luck and I hope it gets taken care of.

Well I did full dose in Catfish tank and it went away fully. in my Hatchet tank 2 fish died before I noticed the ICK and dosed today. I also did find a half eaten Cory in the 29. it was bured in the gravel.
When fish are stressed (which can be caused by sudden and drastic changes in water temperature), their immune systems are not as active and thus can be more prone to diseases such as Ich. So, the change in temperature can have been the trigger in your Ich outbreak. Having said that, depending on the fish (some are more senstive than others), healthy fish in a healthy tank should be able to handle a temperature increase like that. I had a faulty heater in my 29g tank last year (when I had Malawi's in it) and the temperature shot up to 32 degrees a few times until I unplugged the heater, but the fish survived with out any problems.

Just thought I would add one way to get rid of a fish who is dieing that would be considered humane. Put it in a bag, like you would bringing one home from the pet shop, then place the bag in the freezer. Its not painfull for the fish in any way they simply slow down to the point thier little heart stops.
Then when science catches up to these diseases you can simply unthaw them and administer the treetment.
Ok I made up that last part, its not a very funny topic so I tried my best =P
P.S. sorry if there is a thread about humane fish death. I just felt it needed saying without searching.

i had to treat for ick one time a while back. raised my tank temps into the mid 80's and applied the chemical "ick away" for i think a week or so if i'm not mistaken. either way. the chemical took care of the ick and the fish didn't seem bothered by the increase in temp so i never dropped the temp back down. they seem to have acclimated to the increase in temp just fine.
