So, on boxing day i bought myself a 65g tank with a majesty stand. it looks pretty sharp in my opinion. This tank is an upgrade from my measley 29g, so im really stoked about it. right now my current stock is:
6 diamond tetras
2 male guppies
3 male mollies
2 male platys
4 otos.

they all seem to be doing well, and they are now happily exploring their new tank. my filters are a penguin 350, and a rena xp3(being mailed to me right now).

eventually for my stock, i would want:

10 male guppies
5 male mollies
5 male platys
6 otos
8 rummynose tetras
8 glowlight tetras
11 diamond tetras
maybe 1 mystery snail

as of now, my water parameters are 0/0/5, which is to be expected. when i changed over my tank, i just moved over the filter, so it still has all of its BB. I plan on doing 40% WC every 5ish days.

What do you think of my tank so far?thumbs2:

grats on the upgrade. Sounds like you got the 'instant cycle" concept down pat. Stocking a new tank is a lot of fun; Choosing the fish you like, doing the research, meshing compatibilities, etc. I have a recently cycled tank, so I'm learning about stocking myself. I will be following your thread to see what you come up with.
best of luck
steve

so far so good. everyone is settling in nicley. this morning, i noticed that one of my guppies tail was shredded, he came up to eat very slowly, and then went back into hiding. im starting to worry that maybe the diamonds are bullying him. well, ill guess i will have to wait to see how that turns out.

my new xp3 should be here by the weekend, so thats pretty exciting. it'll be a nice upgrade from running just a penguin 350 on a 65g tank. thumbs2:

as far the the water params. go, everything seems pretty normal. 0/0/10 now. its good to see that the transpher went as smoothly as it did.

im starting to think that i might need a bigger heater though. the one that i have right now is 150 watts. im thinking that i will also get a 75 or 100 watt heater to go with it.

ive been looking at live, lowlight plants recently. the one that mainly catched my eye is the wisteria. has anyone had any luck with this plant?:hmm3grin2orange:

Glad to hear it is going well. New fish are a joy, I just added some Kuhlii Loaches and a couple sharks (Bala and a Paradise) to my QT tank from the local pond shop (and fish store. we live out in the sticks) What kind of tank decor are you going with? I have chosen a stream setting with in tank current from a bottom jet and some Manzanita we found at a local hiking spot along the cliffs by the ocean nearby. I have plants and artificials both. If you work on a tank pic so will I. Look forward to keeping up on your progress, and sharing mine ;)

I have Wisteria in my 65 Gallon tank and it grows like crazy. I don't have a fancy set up or anything. Just adequate lighting, water changes and dose flourish excel and comprehensive in my tank a couple times a week and my plants do well.

Oh, congrats on your upgrade thumbs2: I love my 65 gallon tank except when I have to do regular maintainence at the bottom of the tank. It's pretty deep so I stand on a chair to make sure I can reach the bottom without leaning too much on the tank but I really love the visual look of this tank :1luvu:

Good Luck and keep us posted!

ok, ill work on getting some pics, but first i have to find my camera!

It is quite a hassle trying to reach the bottom of my tank too, and its not like im short either (im 5'9)

so today i found one of my guppies just hovering near the gravel. his tail was shredded, and he was being chased around by the diamonds, so im assuming that they were bullying him. by the end of the day, he was barily breathing, so i did what i thought was best and put him down via ice water. its always sad when i have to do that. :(

other than that, everything and everyone seems to be settling in nicely. my sister even decided to name a guppie crayola, and one of the mollies sharpie. :hmm3grin2orange:

Sounds nice. Are you going to add a center piece fish or just increase the schools you have now?
Cameras are made too small these days.It makes them easy to lose.lol:hmm3grin2orange:

I must say that my rummynoses are incredibly friendly. Great wee fish.

thats cool, maybe they might hang out with my otos then. i swear, my otos are the friendliest fish of the bunch. this morning, one of my mollies was picking on a smaller molly, and low and behold one of the otos swam up, and chased the meaner molly away! Is it just me, or when they swim across the tank do the otos look like sharks?

I like the dead guy at the ruins theme :ssuprised: hehe I am going to look into getting a pic on here. I like your stock list, are you pretty much filling it out? I am still stocking but near done. I am going to attempt to rebuild the dresser my tank is currently sitting on to house a sump. well, bye for now... now where did the wife put that camera?

meggysb
01-03-2012, 08:00 PM
haha, thanks, in fact i think that i have a few more castles in my closet somewhere..... and yes, im just working on stocking up my tank.

My xp3 still hasnt come in yet, and it said that it would take 5-9 business days.

going to do another wc today, probably 50ish %. all of the fish are happy so far, but i am worried about one of my mollies, he never comes up to eat.

01-05-2012, 04:30 AM
so, today i did another 50% wc, like i thought that i would, and i fed them, and the bettas some frozen bloodworms. they just loved them, the mollies were jumping out of the tank to try and bite them off the spoon :19:

The fish look great, but I don't think the aesthetic is for me. It looks like half a dozen clowns slap boxing in a vegas elevator. Very colorful! Keep it up!

I think the color looks great - the whole set up is very nice.thumbs2:

thanks, this morning, everyone is still going strong, except that darn filter hasnt got here yet! im seeing the ottos come out alot more, and this morning, when i dropped in a peice of ziccini, immediatly one of the ottos came sniffing around, :hmm3grin2orange:

01-07-2012, 05:32 AM
so, my filter was delivered today, and it works AMAZINGLY!!!! when i set it up, i used the spray bar, and pointed it slightly upwards for surface aggetation. after priming, i turned it on, and the out flow was so strong that it blew all of the other fish to the opposite end of the tank! pretty funny to see all of the tiny guppys trying to swim against the current. i used all of the media that it came with, as well as some biomax that id boughten. works like a charm, and im glad that i bought it.:hmm3grin2orange:

going to do a 50% wc later today, all of the fish are doing well, and the rena works great. the water is cleaer already!

01-08-2012, 06:28 PM
do you keep doing 50%WC to keep up with the AMM and NOs lvls?

01-09-2012, 05:22 AM
Nice looking tank!

Are you going to keep the Penguin 350 on this tank now that you have the xp3, or put the Penguin back on the 29g tank? Or is the 29g being decommissioned?

meggysb
01-11-2012, 04:19 AM
no, i do the 50% about every 5 days just for good measure, and i think that im going to keep the penguin on the tank, but im selling the old 29g

meggysb
01-14-2012, 07:25 PM
so, yesterday i did a 40%wc, and the fish seems to be doing great. the new filter is exceptional, and it works wonders in my tank. before, it had the ugly yellow tint, it looked kind of like tannis, but there is no driftwood. as soon as i added this filter, it was gone by the net morning!

meggysb
01-17-2012, 10:41 PM
would i be able to add a pictus cat to my stock list, or would it eat my smaller fish like glowlights, ottos and guppys?

meggysb
01-21-2012, 09:56 PM
so i did a 50% wc today, and im hoping to get some more fish either today or tomorrow. maybe ill be able to get some rummynoses!

01-21-2012, 10:45 PM
Selling the 29 Gallon? :ssuprised: Are you sure you want to do that? You know how hard it is to kick MTS don't you??????

meggysb
01-22-2012, 11:08 PM
ya, but i already have 5 as it is. 3 1g, 1 5g and 1 65g, my mom is pulling her hair out as it is!:11:

so today, i managed to get to go to the pet expo, as well as the fish store, and i came home with 5 more diamonds, and 1 peppermint platy

meggysb
02-06-2012, 12:21 AM
so my tank is still doing great, and now i have these fish in the tank:

11 diamond tetras
5 male guppies
2 male platys
4 male mollies/ swords
4 oto catts.
