I bought some bait goldfish at a baitshop a while back, as everything in my tank had died from some means or another (I changed the water after my last fish died). I assume the goldfish, being in a baitshop to be used for fishing bait, didn't have the best of care, so it wasn't a surprise to see a small parasite on one of them in my main tank.
Now, a while back I added some feeder guppies (just for extra fish), and there was non-iodized salt put in to prevent Ich. I haven't had any problem with Ich, and I've brought in an additional 20 guppies, Plecos, Platies, and a couple of Honey Gouramis.
All of my bait goldfish broke out with similar parasites, but then they looked to be clearing up. I didn't buy any parasite medicine, as I did not see anything wrong with any of my other fish.. Until now.
Now I'm noticing a number of my feeder guppies with similar parasites, and I just threw in a few more fish in today. I noticed my guppies with similar, or the same parasites just about an hour ago, and I looked up freshwater parasites on Google.. I ASSUME it's Anchor Worm, and now I'm curious if my fish will be alright if I were to throw some parasite medication tomorrow?
After getting tropical fish started in my tank again, I really don't want to start all over. The tank has enough salt to prevent Ich, so I merely assumed that other parasites would have trouble taking hold. Now that I'm seeing the same thing that was on my goldfish on my guppies (and even a platy and honey gourami), I'm really for fear I'm going to see some dead fish. All of my goldfish appear to be in good health otherwise, and the rest of my fish look fine and dandy.
I would assume this is Anchor Worm (as I said earlier), and I plan on medicating it for such tomorrow. However.. I'm worried if it's perhaps too late.
