OK, got a wierd one. Tank is recently cycled, currently 55ga wil 5 Bosemani Rainbows and a Bristlenose Pleco.

Tank is out of direct sun, except for one corner for about 20 min a day in the morning. Problem happens the same whether or not blinds are open.

About noon every day, the water starts clouding up - looks green/yellow, and hard to see from front to back. Peaks around 3pm or so. Lights come on at 4, stay on until midnight. By 7pm it simply looks cloudy, but now more of a white cloud than anything with color. By 11pm or so, the tank is crystal clear again, only to repeat the process the next day.

Has been going on for about 2-3 weeks now. No real improvement, but hasn't gotten worse.

Any ideas? I don't have any live plants, so i was planning on adding a moss ball or two to see if it helps. Water changes had no real effect. I have some diatom growth, but not that bad.

Is this something that I need to address, or will it clear by itself?

Have you been testing your water during those times?

If so... what were your readings?

Basically 0's across the board. Nitr(?)te (the last one) may be a little above 0, but not close to the first step.

That {?} is very important. It sounds like a bacterial bloom to me. Do VERY thourough gravel vac followed by a 50% water change,do that again about 2 days later then go back to a 25% weekly water change.

Just an off the cuff thought... How does the clouding up correlate with your feeding schedule? Any possibility the clouding takes place a certain time after feeding? With so few fish, is the food getting totally cleaned up in a few minutes, or some fine stuff getting left to feed a bacterial bloom that later subsides when the water clears.

They get fed around 7pm at night, as well as a sinking wafer every other day at about 11:30P.

I switch between flake food and little round algae wafers for the swimmers, and it is gone within 30 seconds, if not sooner. (They tear the food apart...)
