Can the desk hold the 10 gallon?

How can I know if the desk will hold a 10 gallon aquarium? It is holding a 5 gallon as you may know. I can't post a pic now, so i will later tommorow. Is there some kind of test I can do?

Another thing, is that there is a small crack on the desk. Matbe an inch long. My dad says its because it is dried out. Is it something to worry about?

Just the water in a 10g weighs 100lbs...plus rocks, substrate, and the tank itself, you're prob looking at about 135-150lbs... does that help?

Actually, 1 gallon of freshwater weighs in at about 8lbs (which would come to a total of about 80lbs of water), so with gravel and everything you are looking at about 100-110lbs total. I have three 10g tanks and have each of them set up on printer stands that I found in a local bargain shop and are holding up very nicely.

In regards to the desk, I wouldn't know to be 100% sure, what kind of desk is it, how big is it, is it sturdy? I would imagine as long as you kept the tank in an area where there is some support, you should be ok. Also, you might want to add a couple of 2x4s underneath as cross braces just for a bit more support.

I would put the tank alongside the desk if possible. In case of a leak, you don't want your computer getting fried.

Yup, the way I check all of my stuff is to get on it and shake it, if it can hold me then darn right it can hold a 10g.:laugh1blue:

what i do is i weigh 170 so i just sit on it like already suggested. before i put my 20g long on a cheap goodwill desk i sat on it and watched tv for a few hours. it held me so i put the 20g long on it and nothings gone wrong.
