I am going in circles trying to decide my fish list and my husband is not making it any easier for me! For those of you who have 55 gallon tanks, could you please list the fish you have in them and how many of each?
My husband wants every fish imaginable and I have to keep reminding him that we cannot overstock the aquarium otherwise we will end up killing all the fish!!!!!
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to do this for me!

Is the tank cycled yet? You need to do that before anything and then there is filtration and equipment and such. I have the following in mine but mine is overstocked yet over filtered and I do 35% water changes every 3 days.
4 Angels (2 veil 2 regular)
4 Orange Sailfin Mollies (one male and 3 female)
4 Apple Snails
2 Khuli Loaches
2 Bamboo Shrimp
1 Green Severum
1 Bichir
They all do fine together but were all put together at a young age.

Thanks Kuli_loach,
I haven't cycled the tank yet and I know that I have to do that before adding any fish. I really wanted my husband to see what other experienced fishkeepers have in their 55 gallon aquariums :ezpi_wink1:

Okay, here is my husbands list:
Angelfish, Red Rasboras, Red-tailed Black Shark, Cardinal Tetra, Congo Tetra, Ram, Dwarf Gourami, Marbled Hatchet, Corydoras
Swordtail, Southern Platy, Black Molly - These are a possibility only if we can get all males and they get along as we do not want to breed them.
*I know we can't get all of these, but trying to convince the hubby of this*

My 55 gallon has 6 Silver Dollars (4 inch) 9 tetras, 6 rasbora's, 2 danio's, 3 angels, 6 clown loaches and one featherfin.
The angels and clowns are coming out and going into a larger tank. It is very difficult to keep angels together. You almost have to get a bunch, wait for them to pair up then separate each pair into other tanks or there will be constant aggression, nipped fins and going after other fish. They do fine for about 7 months then it's all downhill after that.
For community tanks, you will have a more peaceful tank if you get several of one type rather than trying to get one or two of a whole bunch of types. Most do pretty well in larger groups of their own species. It's very nice to see a whole skoal of fish, like the rasbora's, than two or three.
Not true if you go with cichlids, however. Those you are better off getting several females and one or two males.

Yes, my angels show some aggression towards each other but they aren't really paired off real good yet.

I have 17 cichlids in mine. Im not sure what all they are. I know I have 2 acei, 4 kenyi, 1 bumblbee, 4 of those spotted looking ones like a giraffe, 1 victorian, 3 yellow with black strips down the sides, 2 white tops.
They all get along great so far ha ha ha lets see what happens in the next 6 months.

That was what I was worried about concerning the Angels. I absolutely love them and have always wanted some whenever I got an aquarium. I guess I'll have to wait on those for now - another tank I guess... MTS bug has bit me already.
I don't want my first community tank to end up being a nightmare for me or the other peaceful fish I am going to put in it.

I have 1 salvini, a male black convict and female white convict, 1 firemouth, 4yoyo loaches and 2 tiger barbs.
im going to take the firemouth to the store becuase he hides alot and I had alot more tiger barbs but the convicts like to take them out when they mate.
I don't have a 55g tank, but if I did, I'd go for a nice Malawi tank (mbuna's), with lot's of rock work and few plants. Just my .02 cents.
2 55 gallon tanks:
1. 2 snakeskin gouramis, 3 gold gouramis, 2 paradise fish, 1 common pleco (about 7 or so inches now, yes he will eventually be moved), and 4 clown loaches.
2. 2 tinfoil barbs (yes, they will eventually be moved), 1 common pleco about 8 inches (yes he will eventually be moved), 6 green tiger barbs, and 4 rosy barbs.
Eheim canisters + AC HOBs on both, weekly 40-50% water changes.
