I am using 2 Coralife 36" fixtures on my 72" tank. Each has a 6,700k and 10,000k - daylight tube.

I am going to gut two other fixtures and set them up with CFL's but I am not sure what Kelvin rating lamps would be best.

HERE (http://www.1000bulbs.com/category/compact-fluorescents/) are some 5,000k lamps, called full-spectrum, which I understand full-spectrum means daylight/sunlight, but that is what my 10,000k say they are.

What do the plants need and like?

My tank is over moderately planted with easy, hardy, low-light plants.

Actually, the color temperature of sunlight in the tropics, in the first few meters in water is 6700K.

+2, 6700k is the prime number for plants.

+3 to the above

I've tried both 6700K and 10,000K. I've had better luck with the 6700K bulbs

Thanks everyone; 6,700k is unanimous.

For now I am going to keep using both Coralife 36" fixtures each with a 6.700k and a 10,000k lamp, plus retrofit two spare hoods. In those, I am going to have a total of 8 CFL's - 14 watt / 60 watt equal. Those are 6,500k; which I am hoping is close enough for my low light, easy to grow plants.

Retrofit parts, 8 lamps plus 2 spares will cost about $70.
