(I think I spelled that right)
Ok I have owned a Penguin 330 for my 55 gallon tank for 4 years now. Well I have noticed filtration is slowing down. I would like to purchase a new one but I am interested in something a tad more powerful like the Emporer 400? What are the pros and cons between these two. Should I just get another Penguin 330 (I think they are 350s now)
Thanks

Have you cleaned the filter thoroughly? If it is slowing down then the impeller may need to be replaced, far cheaper than buying a new one.

I run the 350's. I love them and had no trouble. They are both made by marineland, just the emperor is more expensive and of higher quality.

The main difference is size. The Emperor is just a larger version of the Penguin, that's it. If you get a new one, go bigger.

That to except like the 330 emperor is smaller than the 350 penguin.

Not really, they are all the same sizes, but the new line of Penguins is updated (a few modifications), and I think has higher gph rates.

Have your run a brush up thru the lift tubes? There's really no reason for a filter to slow down and that lift tube may be full of gunk.

Ditto, had to do that to mine the other day.

Hey all thanks for the help so far.
Well the filter itself is spottless. I have known in the past that the tube or the magnetic peller thing-a-ma-jig can slow it down if it get gunky. Who know it could have been from the pool filter sand I put in there a month ago, but it was slowing down before that so Im not sure. I just bought a 6 month supply of filters for it so I think Im going to stick with the penguin 350 so that im not having to change out the cartriges. It still runs it just doesnt run as fast as it used to. Poor thing is old and tired ha ha ha

I would keep the old one running plus add the new one. Two filters will create better circulation and you can maintain one every other week.

Yes, and if you can, order the filter because at my LFS, it is 80$ for a 350 when it is 30$ in a magazine I get. I was stupid enough to get one from my LFS.:27:
