View Full Version : How many fish in a 20g long?

Is this a good stocking level for a 20g long? I have a AC 50 filter and I do a 30% water change every week.

6 Harlequin Rasboras
4 Zebra Danios
2 Oto cats
1 Fancy Guppy

4 oscars. LOL

Will the danio's leave the guppy alone? My zebra's ripped all the fins from my long finned danio so all sounds good except for the danios and guppy. I'd leave the danio's out, get more guppies and more rasbora.

I'm with Lady Hobbs - but I have a bias against danios to begin with!

Well I really don't like the Danios either but I'm kinda stuck with them now. And as hardy as they are they will probably be around for a long time. They've grown a lot since I got them too. They don't bother the guppy but the guppy chases the rasboras and the danios all the time. He's a pain. I don't like guppies either now that I've had a few. If I could give someone my danios and guppy I'd think about getting a little cory family and maybe add somemore rasboras.

I guess what I'm asking is not so much is it a good mix of fish but is my tank full, overstocked or could I add more fish?

If it was my tank - I would add 6-8 neons and 3-4 cories.

That takes into account my filtration and water change schedule (Double filtration and 50% a week)

Since I have an AC 50 and do 30% water changes/week I guess I could add about 3 corys to the mix without a problem, right?

I don't see a problem

A lot of people might say you would be OK with the neons too with that setup - you probably would be - but I haven't tried that WC shedule so I really don't know how the water / bacteria will act.

You could add the cories keep an eye on it for a while the add half the neons - then the other half - keeping good eye on it to be sure nothing odd happens with the water / water quality / fish health.

Mostly just watching to be sure that your nitrates are still healthy when it comes time for each water change

I would add the fish a few at a time no matter what just to be sure that you don't overload the bacteria in the tank and minicycle

Good luck whatever you decide!

Thanks Robbie! If I do add corys it won't be for a while. I'm just gonna leave it for now and see if all the rasboras continue to be happy.

Based on the comments to this post, I think my tank is not overstocked and I could add a few more fish. I'll probably look around for some corys in a couple weeks if all goes well in the tank until then.

Good luck!

I keep a few albino cories in all of my tanks - they are my favorites.

I just stopped by PetSmart to get dog food and noticed that they have corys there. They also have something labeled Spotted Cory that looks pretty cool but they were out of them. They also had a lot of albino corys and some Emerald Green corys that were HUGE! I think I'll hold out for the Spotted Cory because they looked pretty cute. Kinda reminded me of my pandas.

They're probably peppered corydoras.

I have a bunch of them in my big tank - they stay small like the albinos and are a lot of fun.

They had those too but I think they get bigger than the Spotted Cory (Corydoras brevirostris) like this one - [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Cool! That's good to know. I'm looking for corys that stay small like pandas. Well as soon as the new PetSmart opens I'll have to head over and see if they have any since the one close to me doesn't have any now.
