nice tank! I couldn't see your royal plec, but would love a pic of him. I also keep clowns, royals, and big sa/ca cichlids. those jags have a ton of room in there. kudos on the filtration also! wet/dry's are great! I would love to get a big mass of java fern also in my 190.

lemme see if I can embed your video for ya....

I was going to put a a video of the royal pleco for ya,(he was right in the front of the tank), but, as soon as I approached the tank, he took off for the driftwood. I'm goin to get some cucumber & tie it to a rock, that should bring it to the front long enough to get a good shot of him, & then I'll post a video for ya.

That java fern is at least 8 years old. It grew from a very small piece to what you see today. It has spread a few offshoots onto other areas on the drfitwood, but it's real slow growing. Just get a clump of it from a pet store, tie it to a piece of wood, & leave it be.(At least that's what I did)

The wet/dry is old, too. I got it when I managed a pet store back in the mid-90's. Powered by a Supreme pump that I believe does 1250 GPH that is from the same period, so I highly recommend them.

Thanks for the comments!!:hmm3grin2orange:

Yeah, he's starting to get really great color. I filmed that video w/ an I-Touch, so the video is not the best quality. (Hopefully Santa will bring me a decent video camera...............) He's probably about 6 to 8 inches, give or take.:hmm3grin2orange:

I'm also thinking of getting a blue-eyed panaque for this tank( at least a small one @ a reasonable $$), but haven't seen one in these parts for some time. I wiil also get more driftwood(if I can find one), so the royal & the b/e will have seperate territories.

What's this "L" denotation?

What's this "L" denotation?

they were finding new species of plecos faster then they could name them and properly identify them, so a leading german aquarium/fish magazine started giving the plecos L#s (L is for loricariidae) to keep track of new species. eventually, the L#s stuck and makes identifying plecos much easier.

here's a good list of all the L#s with pics:

Nice! The Jag looks great and I'll bet you're right about the other being a female. Are all of the plants real? I cannot keep a plant in my Dovii tank! Kudos!

Thanks, he is starting to show that nice jaguar pattern. That other jag was one of the original group of six babies(that include the male I have now), & all were purchased @ the same time & size, & this one hasn't nearly gotten as big as fast, & the male really doesn't try to hard to bully her, so I really think it's a female(I hope, as I would like them to spawn 1 day!!)

No all, the plants are not real, the ones in the corners are plastic.(My Jag does like to rip them up!!) I keep java fern because it's supposed to have a bad taste, & not even the plecos mess w/ it. I can't seem to get that amazon sword in the pot to grow, even though the plecos don't mess w/ it, & it's got laterite in the pot it's in, & I have 2 dual lights on it!!

I would like to have a Dovvi also, as a lone specimen, but don't have a tank big enough to house one. If I brought another tank into the house, my old lady would kill me!!!:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :22:

That 180 would be great for a solo Dovii! : ) I plan on giving our male Dovii the 180 once the larger fish are moved to their bigger tank. He is around 14" and a complete beast! I'm overdue to start a new thread for him.

We had a female Jag for several years and she stayed about 8" long. The females also tend to have a more compact look to them. Like they are a little thicker than the males. They are normally not quite as colorful either, although they do get some nice purples etc.

I wish I had room for a Dovii, but the biggest tank (other than the 180) is a 55, & that has a breeding pair of JD's in it. Someday when i hit my millions, I'll get another giant tank. (I had a line on an old 330 AGA that was in an aquarium store that was closing down by my Dad's in MD, but I would have had to build a house around that one, I couldn't get it in my doors, & my wife got wind of it & put the kybosh on it. DAMN!!)

Yeah, I'm really thinking it's a female, she has a lot less spots than he did @ that size, I'm just trying to get some size on her by doing a lot of partials & feeding mealworms, earthworms, etc. Either that, or "she" is a runt. But he would have ripped her up by now like the other ones,no? (They all got re-homed!!):hmm3grin2orange:
