View Full Version : Finally! Got to witness birth

When I went home for lunch today my Dalmation Mollie - Dolly - was in the process of birthing her babies. So cool to watch. I tried to video but most of them she had behind a plant. I already have a bunch of platy babies that must have been born last week that I didn't even know about until I rearranged some deco and a bunch came out! Not to mention 2 sets of fry in the nursery tank. (9 platy - 9 mollies) Whew - these are from mama's that got pregnant before I got them - and still having babies. Maybe we are about done.

Maybe after 6 months you will be done but not until then.

Probably. I would get some tetras or other fish that will eat excess babies when you upgrade. Good luck with everything.

Your lucky, I have a tank full of livebearers and have never witnessed any of them giving birth but I have seen my gourami slurp the fry up like popcorn. Congrats on your new additions... :ssmile:

She probably had around 20 or so and none were eaten. I saw the other mollie go after a couple and they ducked quickly enough. They are not even hiding now - they are out in the open, maybe because there are week old platy fry in there, too, and they are out in the open.
Possilby she had already had some babies before I caught her and those were eaten, I don't know. I took several of both batches out and put in the fry tank just because it is so darn hard to vac with all those babies in there.
