A 5 gallon can house a good number of shrimp. Even better would be a ten gallon that could hold 100-200 shrimp.

Larger tank size is better than smaller, easier to keep the water parameters stable. I keep several 5g and 10g shrimp tanks. I do have some 2.5g shrimp tanks which need more frequent water changes and care. Sponge filters work really well shrimp tanks.

The larger of the two would be my choice. A 5 gallon would easily hold 40 shrimp. Just make sure the filter in-take has a fine sponge over it so the little baby shrimp wont get sucked up into the filter.

I prefer gravel but thats me. Everyone has their own preference for substrate.

Cheery shrimp like to harvest on java moss and algae but they will eat fish flakes, algae wafers, shrimp pellets, etc. They eat it all. Just dont over feed.

They will eat off the microflora on the plants and such. They will eat pretty much anything. Just avoid foods with copper in them. With shrimp a little food goes a long way. Pellets, flake, algae, and veggies all work.
