Im doing a fishless cycle and some brown hair like algae is forming on rocks and drift wood. What is this and how can I control it?
Lights are on 8.5 hours a day. Tank is planted.
Test numbers
Ammonia - .5
Nitrate - 5
Nitrite - .5

Did you read the Algae Primer? It's most likely Diatoms.

Thanks I didnt realize diatoms could be hair like. Looks like you hit it on the head though. Thanks

Have you tried to see if you could find it here, in this thread?

Knowing what it is or seeing some photos would help but you may find it here in a photo. Diatoms are generally the first one you'll see so I agree with all above.
