Getting a new 55 Gallon. I already have a pair of Convict Cichlids that will go in there. I was thinking
2 Convicts,
1 Green Terror,
1 Frontosa,
Pleco.

I was also just kinda looking for a bit of an oddball to throw in as well, sort of like a Bicher, or an eel. Ideas?

In my tank I have a breeding Pair of convicts 2 other female cons and a Blood Parrot just for some decoration. My Pair of Cons have just spawned and after the fry get big enough to transfer to my other tank I was thinking of adding another fish or 2 as well. I'm leaning more towards a Salvini or a Firemouth. Knowing me I will probably get both because I wont want to choose between the two lol. Let Us know what you choose when you make your decision, your decision may help influence mine as well. Good Luck

frontosas are community fish and need to be in a docile colony. convicts will not allow that. the green terror will get big enough for a 55 and will have problems with convicts also. if you have a breeding pair of convicts, you will be hard-pressed to get anything to survive with them. I would suggest keeping the convicts for awhile (55 is a great size for them), or go in a different direction. they will not tolerate other fish in that size tank.

I agree Frontosas are really docile fish and with the breeding pair of Cons not much will go well with them but what I did was put up a divider when the cons eggs hatched and My male con is the Alpha of the tank and he does not put up with a lot, so on the other side of my tank the Blood Parrot and 2 other Female cons live peacefully while the babies are free swimming, In about a month or so I will move them to my 15 gallon until they get a decent enough size to use as feeders to my Africans and also in case people want them. It kinda all depends on what your outlook on it is because cons are going to breed regardless and if other fish are threatening that they become casualties.

I wouldn't dream of putting a convict with my blood parrots. I like them too much! The only thing I've had with my parrots is community fish and an angel fish. Currently they are alone in their 55. Convicts are great fighters and parrots can't really defend themselves with their mouths as they are.

Convicts and a salvin's would be a great idea.Salvin's can hold their own, they can be quite the antagonist. Not to mention they stay smaller the green terrrors, with a splash of different colors.

My 8" Blood Parrot has been picking on my 8.5" Severum and managed to rip the Severums bottom lip off yesterday, the BP is unharmed.

My Blood Parrot came into the tank and the day after he was there I had eggs in the tank from the Cons and I couldn't get them to breed for anything, I feel he is kind of lucky lol. But since the eggs were in there him and the Male Con just snipped at each other but other than that no harm has been done, and I've seen my Male do some harm before. But now my Blood Parrot just chases around the other to female Cons and they all seem to get along so its just kinda funny how things worked out. But I agree Salvini's would be a good choice as well.
