How much should we feed our Betta? We feed him Hikari Betta Bio-Gold. The directions say to feed the Betta 2-4 pellets two to three times daily. We began feeding him 3 pellets twice a day but I have read some people only feed their Betta 3 pellets a day so they do not overfeed them. After reading that, we then started feeding him 3 pellets a day. He looks as if he is still hungry and practically begs us for more. I want to make sure that we feed him enough but I don't want to overfeed him. How can we tell when we are giving him too much food?
Remember that your betta's stomach is roughly the size of his eye, very small. You are better off having a hungry fish than one that is overfed. 3-4 pellets a day I think is all that is needed.

Okay, that makes sense. That is what we'll do. I'll just have to ignore those little puppy dog eyes begging me for more - lol

I've been feeding my bettas 3 pellets a day for over a year and no one has died of starvation yet. They always act hungry though.

That's good to know that it isn't just my Betta acting like that because I really didn't want to feed him too much.

Mines hungry all the time too :) I give mine 2 in the morning and 2 at night
Hungry fish, to an extent, usually mean healthy fish.

Do they need a variety of food or just Betta pellets?

Variety is always a good thing!
Live or frozen brine shrimp (just a few) will be eaten.
Mine loved eating mosquito wigglers, I try to breed them without the neighbours complaining, just so my fish used to get a live, yummy meal.
When you feed, make sure you've got his attention.

I feed mine two different types....Usually its the hikari betta bio gold, but sometimes I give him the tetramin Betta flake medley, which has like freeze dried flakes and brine shrimp in it. It likes either of them.
I give mine freeze-dried bloodworms a few times a week.

I was hand/forceps-feeding Courtier (my new Betta) with individual live tubifex tonight. He yummed them down.
