Instead of trying to fight with insufficient lights I have decided to work with what I have so have ordered 7 crypts. I have read of crypts "melting" but can't remember the reason for it. My luck it was probably due to hard water!

I'm thinking I may have to replace my round stones with sand. The other plants just couldn't get a grip on those stones as they were too coarse and would not stay in the base. Suggestions?

most crypts will melt at the first sign of different water. my crypts did, but quickly put up new leaves. so if they melt do not give up on them. They may be adjusting to the new water.

Like my water.......sloushing a drop on your foot could put you in a cast? LOL

Thanks HH. I also hear they don't like to be moved and do not take to adjustments easily.

I had no growth until I speperated my crypts from one another and planted them all seperately. They really took off. They also don't like adjustments. Another important thing to remember is to remove leaves with algae, signs of rot, or just leaves that don't look to good. 2 weeks ago i removede all the bad leaves on my crypts and all ready I am seeing soonme great new growth.

They also melt due to changing lighting conditions, ie moving from the nursery to the LFS or so on. They'll rebound in time.

Mine weren't doing well also until i separated them and planted each one separate. I planted mines in pots with garden soil topped off with normal gravel.
All my plants are planted this way and my gravel in the tank hides the pots so when i want to re-arrange i have no problem.

Good idea! Keeps fish from uprooting them, too.
