I was thinking last night about my tanks and i remembered that i have an empty 5 gallon sitting around. i then thought i should change it up. so if the parents ok the idea i want to buy a simple flourescent bulb, fully plant it and add a crayfish. I wouldn't have a filter, just a heater to keep the temperature uniform. what do you guys think? thats what they do at the petstore to keep the plant tanks clean and i thought i could do that on a smaller scale. i've always wanted a crayfish and a planted tank but its just so expensive.

thye have 13 and 60 watt bulbs at lowes that i could use. 60 seems like way too much to me. how would the 13 watt work? i could keep medium light level plants right?

60 watts is a lot for a 5 gallon tank. I think in a tank that size, just one anabus and grass might be ok.

100% no on the Crayfish. Depending on the type of Crayfish they grown 6"-12" For a Blue Knight Crayfish a 20g is good.

actually the crayfish i had in mind, that they have at the petstore, called the Shufeld's crayfish only get 1 1/2' long and lives 15-18months they don't need a heater and like to live with plants. it fits my tank perfectly. and also they are relativelyu peaceful, so would have no trouble adding 2-3 white cloud minnows.
