I have seen the postings about aquarists having a hard time with EBJD's growing past 4 inches.Maybe I do not read the same info as most, but there are quite a few full grown ones on youtube. So do you think it is because of the bad gene pool, lots of inbreeding,or something entirely different?Any thoughts?

Bad gene pool and lots of inbreeding. If I try them again, I'll buy from a US breeder. The ones I've bought before were from LFS which most likely sourced them from Asia. I will also use a UV on the tank, and probably periodically treat the tank for parasites.

Yeah,I like them also.It is hard to deny the appeal of this color strain.Truly a beautiful fish, plus more mellow than the regular jack.

I'm coming to like the regular JDs more now after the difficulty I've had with the EBs. My adult JD is very mellow, she's in my mellow cichlid community and doesn't cause any trouble. Her coloring rivals that of EBs imo. I also have a young JD (who is a bit more excitable) who is going to have stunning coloration. At 2.5-3" he's one of the best colored juveniles I've seen.

Here's my adult:

For comparison, here's the EBJD I currently have, he came with the 180g. Note how deformed he is, not a good looking fish.

I have givin up on EB's aswell, To much crappy gene's around, Just get a nice blue gene split for a display. Just about every EB in Aus had shitty fins and deformed shape.
