Hey guys, I have a 10 gallon tank and i previously have had aggressive fish in the tank. But now I'd like to start over and create more of a community tank containing fish with bright colors. I wouldn't like fish that mate too much and would like them at a low price. Please reply and give me your opinions and recommendations.

all i have to say is dont buy guppies!

atarted with 5 now i have 20+ but i love guppies :)
Peaceful community tank with cheap fish that are brightly colored pretty much limits you to a lot of livebearers, most of which will breed like crazy. Hopefully someone else will be along and help you think of some other options though.

How Cheap you talking? I have a 10g and have looked at a few fish that I would like...community fish, and colorful.
Look into:
Cardinal Tetra
Neon Tetra
Rummy-Nose Tetra
Other then that I would search around a few LFS and even online, most LFS will order fish that you want.

Those are nice fish but probably won't breed as easy as sword tails and platys.
I always thought swordtails were pretty neat even though I didn't enjoy keeping them. They still looked cool.

I agree, the tetra's are cool fish. I've got neons a couple oto cats and love them.

If you are interested in cichlids, the shell dwellers are quite interesting if you have alkaline water and are prepared to take really good care of the tank. Example:

They're not bright colours, but they are really cute.
You could have a Golden Dwarf Cichlid with a few cory's as the clean-up crew. I got them at these prices:

Been a couple decades since I kept a ten, but properly maintained and filtered, you could keep a dozen neons easily. The rummies don't like to be crowded, so no more than six in your ten. Cardinals are a touch bigger than the neons, so between six and eight of those.
Obviously, I'm suggesting you choose just one of the three species for your tank. Tetras do FAR better in schools of six or more, so I recommend not buying less than that number.
