Apple Snails: I dont know what the problem is here. Got two, one died in two weeks, the other got super fat and happily devoured algae and algae wafers and lived two months, and then for a week it started hiding all the time before: X_X. So i might have given up on them because they die. I dont know, do i want them still? It depends if anybody knows why apples would suddenly die...

Nerite Snails: Had one Zebra and one Tiger. Well first they cracked shells and cut off antennas and eyes in the filter, and then... Long story short, they burnt themselves to death. Well, one is still alive, but is only a stub foot and a head now, and i dont know if that will grow back like the eyes and antennas did last time. Im iffy about dealing with these guys again...

And thats all ive had so far and why i am thinking of switching, so anybody know any that would be even better at algae maintenance (and not crazy breeders like pond snails)? Also they must be nice looking. I obviously need new ones to replace my dead, and im hoping for more durable/less dumb. And Nitra-ZORB, i need that too. :)

You could try giving your apple snails more than algae waffers.

IMO, snails also need veggies in their diet to be healthy

The below link showes some of the better choices for veggies

OKay thanks. So that might be why they died. :/ No if only there was a solution to the nerites problems...

I find it impossible to keep snails too, so don't feel bad. Maybe it's the pH or something.

pH does like to go high. Havent mastered that yet. :/ Tap comes out 7.0 but both tanks are at 7.8pH. That might be it. In that case i guess staying with the hardy (but morbidly stupid) nerites would be my best bet.

Edited because i said "mortally when i meant "morbidly".

Snails aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. My friends very expensive snail climbed out of his tank one night only to be eaten by his cat. We found the left-overs. Keep trying ekfishlover2011,you'll find one to your liking soon.

Okay, ill just experiment with lots of snails and see what lasts longest, looks best, seems smarter, and does best job of algae control. Instead of my two nerites and two apples i get one of everything they have this time, except the predator snails and the out of control breeding snails. :) That should speed up selection process. Of course no snails are on the website :/ so i have to actually go there and figure it out while there. Grr.
