For my 29g I have a 65w corallife light. I also have the regular 18 watt light that came with the hood with the tank.
Do you think it would make a difference if I put the old light on in addition to the 65w light? Or would it be pointless.
Would I then have 83 watts or whatever?

If you have room for another light, why not? the more the better. But, m not sure if an old light will give out that much light. But, it will give out something! I would go out and buy another one.

I don't really need another one but I figure if another 18 watts will be even better then I might as well use it.

Then use it, it may not give you 18 watts, maybe 10? but 10 is still good!

I use my hood light in addition to my strip light.

If you use the 18w light in additioon to the 65w, You should make the bulb a different spectrum of light. It will have a different effect on the look of thye tank.

Not really worth it imo. Better to have good central placement with the 65w fixture.

I'm with Chrona on this one. I'm going with the "If its not broken, dont fix it" way of thinking. If plants are growing fine which they should with 65W then just leave it alone. I dont know what kind if any CO2 set up you have but that extra light might just cause algae outbreak if you dont have enough CO2 and ferts. Its all about balance so if everything is growing fine and you dont get any algae then just leave it alone. Thats just my opinion and since I dont know any detail it might or it might not be the right answer. You have to chose.:c2:
