So my friend just recently got a 75 gallon after seeing my 60 and wants to do a cichlid tank. Knowing him he wants to have more than one so no oscars or doviis lol. My idea was maybe a green sev or two, a salvini, and maybe something else. My forte is communities and dwarf cichlids so I'm asking the experts (cough*hobbs, jen, aeon, shae, lab*cough) lol any ideas.

A couple acara would go well in that tank. The sevs sound good to me. Maybe a school of dithers to round out the tank

There are tons of options for a 75G being a mixed cichlid community. I would stick to single species and do 3-5 cichlids. Keeping a single species will curb aggression as there wont be potential to breed. You are only working with a 4ft footprint so I would go for smaller cichlids. I have kept Severums and Salvini together in the past with great success. To that your friend could also add an Acara, Convict, etc I would also keep a group of shoaling species to act as dithers and to buffer aggression. Silver dollars would work best, don't get the redhooks or luna SDs as these are much larger than the standard everyday Silver Dollars. I would go for a group of 5. A couple of BN plecos would be a nice addition as well.
